Located near the Colorado River in the South-Central-Eastern section of Texas, La Grange fits in as a small but mighty town with a rich history. La Grange first found prominence as an early river crossing point for travelers along the El Camino Real. Substantial settlement didn't begin until the early 1800s, with the first group of settles arriving in 1822. Eventually, John Henry Moore built a Blockhouse as protection from roaming Comanche attacks. This building became known as Moore's Fort, providing protection to local settlers. By 1831, the group of settlers living near Moore's Fort had grown, with features of a small town springing up. In 1837, La Grange was accepted into the greater Republic of Texas as a new town, becoming the county seat of Fayette. Around 1848 a wave of German immigrants arrived as a result of revolutions in Europe, who were then followed by a wave of Czech settlers. Today, La Grage remains a small town with a mighty personality. With 5,000 residents and its historical charming town center, La Grange remains a quintessential Texas town with strong ties to its history.
